Only one thing is necessary

By Stephen Correa

“Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.  She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her” Luck 38:41

In our lives we are many times like Martha, worry and distracted for our responsibilities and chores, but live in this way don´t let us live with the biggest privilege we have, be with Jesus. In this story Jesus told to Martha that was worried about many things, but none of those “many things” were necessary, the best part was be at the Lord feet listening his words and sharing with Him. The main part of this story is the words of Jesus when He says: “But only one thing is necessary”. This is what God is saying “Only one thing is the most necessary in your life” and it’s being in touch and company of Jesus.

Many of the things that worries us are not really so important as we believe, but they work together so we live with more stress and anxiety. So we must build everything on the trust and faith in God, resting on His protection and help.

Take every day a moment to have a friendship and contact with the Lord, sitting at the Lord feet, listen his words and leave aside all the frustration and anxieties. Lord wants to become our close friend and He has the control in everything in our live, He only needs us to be with Him.

Be success in life is not being full of activities and works, or gather money at the expense of our physical and emotional health. Success is live under God’s blessings in all moment, is be in peace, is be free emotionally and be able to work happy and with joy.

Let’s image 2 persons working, doing the same thing, apparently everything is the same, but inside one is worry and anxious; while the other is relax, in peace and in joy in the presence of God.

This is the big difference, because it’s not about do something or anything. But is about to choose living our life at the Lord’s feet. He will take away our loads and anxious so we could live lighter. Live by the Lord’s feet is have peace and trust continually while we do everything in life.

Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest”.
